EEG: EEK

The Birthday was a tremendous success and great fun. Our neighbor and her daughter came over and had pizza and cake and ice cream with us. D-Man opened all of his presents and was thrilled. My mom got him some Spiderman, die cast cars, which, ironically, fit into the Spiderman car launcher I got for him. I don’t know how my mom does this stuff. I didn’t tell her what I got for him yet she got him something (that I decided to not get because he has so many cars and I didn’t want to spend the money) that went perfectly with his new toy. Way to go, mom!

The boys got bikes for Christmas from Santa. The older two boys love their bikes but D-Man is afraid of his and refuses to ride it. It’s just a wee-bit big for him and the training wheels make it scary-wobbly. He rides his scooter when we ride our bikes. I found a small, Spiderman bike for him and spoke to his brothers about making a big deal about his new bike so he wouldn’t be afraid of it. It worked!! He was so excited and kept saying, “Spideebike!” We took it outside and he got right on it and started riding as if he’s known how to ride all along but just needed one that fit him a little better. What a success!

D-Man has a doctor appointment today for an EEG. We had to keep him up as late as possible last night and get him up at 5:00AM this morning. Evidently, they need him to be sleep deprived in order for the test to work. Man, what a tough thing to do to the Birthday Boy. He wasn’t allowed to have any caffeine so; I let him eat all the cake he could shovel into his mouth. He had FOUR pieces! I put in Happy Feet and kept nudging him with laughter and song. I am sure I was very, very annoying and at one point he tried to bury himself under the couch pillows so he could go to sleep. I finally said, “Enough is enough.” and put him to bed. I stayed up late with him and S got up early. I drank coffee; he made it until midnight while I was up until 2:30. Ack! I could have thrown the alarm across the room when it went off at five.

Amazingly, he hasn’t gone into meltdown this morning. He is, however, being quite aggressive with his Gameboy and is yelling at it. At least he’s not yelling at us or the dogs. We kept him home from school (it’s a short day, anyway) and he’s talking to himself, being a little manic, and is screeching at his game. Ahhh…. the good old days.

It’s great that he’s getting this EEG but this process is going to affect him for a month. His sleep patterns will be off and he will want to fall asleep at dinnertime. It will take every ounce of patience to work him back into his routine. His manic behavior causes him to become very, very bossy. He just told me to take a shower.

“DeMommy?”
“What baby?”
“You go take a sower ri…. now!”
“Do I stink?”
“Uh-Huh.”
“Oh. Mmmk.”
“No. Now!!”

Geez. I can hardly wait for dinnertime.

  1. My nickname as a kid used to be Stinky.

What a great evening – sounds like he had a heap of fun.

Good luck today with the EEG. Sounds like it will be early to bed for all tonight.

  2. I hope everything goes well with the EEG and the results are helpful in the long run. Good luck with that getting back into the routine. La’s the same way…one hour off her schedule and it takes her two weeks to get back on it. GRRRRRR!!!

Thank you so much for understanding about the bungee jumping/parachuting. I’ve deciding on the parachuting. Wheeeee!!! It’ll actually be easier on my system, strange as that seems. Can hardly wait!!!
    Much love!

  3. How do you wake up a kid who’s in a carbo comma from four pieces of cake?

He’s been off his schedule all week because of that test.
It has been rough but he’s doin’ okay.
