If You’re Life was a Film…

If your life were a film, what would the soundtrack be?
My buddy Holy tagged me for this. I hate doing these things but this one was fun. Tag yourself if’n you wanna do it. Have fun. I only cheated twice but that’s ’cause I had two commercials for the values of RealPlayer come up. Ha! I guess I could have made some smartass comment but decided to stick to the music.

So, here’s how it works:

1. Open your library. (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle.
3. Press play.
4. For every question, type the song that’s playing.
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button.
6. Don’t lie and try to pretend you’re cool.
7. When you’re finished, tag some other people to do it!

Opening Credits

  • It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing): Eva Cassidy. “‘Cause you just got to give that rhythm everything you’ve got.” Okay, I totally agree with this.

Waking Up

  • Ingredients of Love (featuring Musiq): Angie Stone. “…a tablespoon of attitude… a least a pound of conversation, two quarts of intelligence, and a gallon of righteousness… a smidgen of strength and whole lotta stamina… a liter of respect and a damned good listener.” Is it love for someone else that awakens us or is it self-love? Hmmm… either way, this isn’t a bad recipe.

First Day at School

  • Of Course You Can: Spearhead. “Can you see me in the desert? (Of course you can.) Can you see me on the mountain? (Of course you can.) Can you see me in the ocean? (Of course you can.) I’ll be splishin’, splashin’, jumpin’ in the sand…” Can you see me? Of course you can. I love this song ’cause it’s so “can-do” and that’s pretty much how I go after it.

Falling in Love

  • Soul: Matchbox Twenty. “… you’re waiting here for someone else to break you from the inside… you’ve been so composed… we all know there’s somethin’ tearin’ you apart… it hits you always so much harder than you thought… but you don’t worry, you don’t worry ’cause… you’ve got soul. You’re so heavy, so misunderstood.” This is so totally Piscean!

Fight Song

  • Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen: Santana. (lol) “… she’s tryin’ to make a devil out of me… don’t turn your back on me baby; start messin’ ’round with your tricks…” A little Voodoo in a Fight Song is never a bad thing. Don’t mess with my Mojo, man.

Breaking Up

  • All Apologies: Nirvana (Unplugged in New York). “What else should I be? All apologies. What else should I say? Everyone is gay. What else should I write? I don’t have the right. What else should I be? All apologies… In the sun… in the sun I feel as one… In the sun… In the sun… married… buried…” How freakin’ perfect is this? I always feel like I’m the first one to apologize. Damned Dale Carnegie.

Prom

  • Heart: Peggy Lee; Cocktail Mix. “You’ve gotta have heart. (Corazon.) All you really need is heart. When the odds are sayin’ you’ll never win, that’s when the grin should start. You’ve gotta have hope. Mustn’t sit around and mope. Nothin’s ever as bad as it may appear, wait until next year and hope.” This is kinda funny ’cause I broke up with my boyfriend two weeks before Prom then got back together with him two weeks after. I had the dress and everything. Oh well… I never went to Prom.

Making Babies

  • With Arms Wide Open: Creed. “Well I just heard… The news today… It seems my life is gonna change… I close my eyes… Begin to pray… Then tears of joy… Stream down my face… With Arms Wide Open… Under the sunlight… Welcome to this place… I’ll show you everything… With Arms Wide Open…With Arms Wide Open…” Considering how I never actually “made” babies… they just appeared one day… this is perfecto… and truly how I now feel.

Mental Breakdown

  • Leaving Las Vegas: Sheryl Crow. “I quit my job as a dancer… At the Lido Des Girls… Dealing blackjack until one or two… Such a muddy line between… The things you want… And the things you have to do…” Ha! I can’t even get drunk if I’m in a mental breakdown. However, I’ve never regretted quitting that dancer job.

Driving

  • Parachutes: Coldplay. “In a haze, a stormy haze… I’ll be round, I’ll be loving you, always… Always Here I am and I’ll take my time… Here I am and I’ll wait in line, always… Always…” I guess this is talking about driving through LA last summer… only I wasn’t lovin’ anyone at that moment.

Flashback

  • Be: Lenny Kravitz. “… Look what’s the matter. Am I insane? This life’s an illusion; that’s all it remains. Are you listenin’? Are you boss? Am I gonna make it up top on that cross? Believe in your name and you’ll forever… Be.” I’ve definitely had these moments and thoughts while in Flashback…

Getting Back Together

  • Nocturne in E-Flat, Major, Op. 9, No. 2: Frederic Chopin. Light and sweet; as it should be.

Wedding

  • Mambo 2000: Johnny Blas. All instrumental; quite the busy little mambo-y dance with several mondo-drum routines. Cha-Cha-Cha. Since I’ve never technically been married… this is perfect for that dance-around-the-issue deal.

Birth of Child

  • How’s It Gonna Be: Third Eye Blind. “I’m only pretty sure… that I can’t take anymore, before you take a swing… I wonder.. what are we fightin’ for… when I say out loud, “I wanna get out of this.”, I wonder, is there anything I’m gonna miss.” LOL… now this is funny… if I don’t take it too seriously. I think I’ve said this to the kids about a thousand times this week… “I can’t take it anymore!!@!”

Final Battle

  • Eugene’s Lament: Beastie Boys. Instrumental. Very Arabic sounding violins… swirling around a a constant drumline… Funk… plucking… towards… ecstasy… spiraling up… down… into a final crescendo.

Death Scene

  • Empty Hands: Lenny Kravitz. “He rolled in town on a white horse with nuthin in his hands he came to gather his people and take ‘em to their promised land when he came he knew there would be bloodshed but still no violence made his plans he came to fight in a battle with no guns or money… with his empty hands…” I have no idea what this means.

Funeral Song

  • Little Daughter: T-Bone Burnett. “Little daughter, Angelina… I pray the Lord will always bless you. When you’re sleepin’… little daughter… I pray the Lord surrounds you with his angels. … When I’m not with you, little daughter… I pray the Lord surrounds you with his angels…” This is just a tad too religious for me but sweet nonetheless. And, no, Angelina is not my name… I’m thinkin’ that’s a metaphoric monicker.

End Credits

  • Got You Under My Skin: Frank Sinatra. “I’ve got you under my skin. I’ve got you deep in the heart of me. So deep in my heart that you’re really a part of me. I’ve got you under my skin. I tried so… not to give in. I said to myself this affair never will go so well. But why should I try to resist when baby I know so well… I’ve got you under my skin.” Yeah, ya’ll won’t be forgittin’ me so soon, will ya now? I’m like mange… only slightly more attractive.

This was fun and long and tiring ’cause not all of the songs had lyrics available. Of course, I picked and chose those lyrics that I felt applied. So much for Harmonic Wealth; this thing is all over the Life’s Journey Path.

  1. uhm quiiiick Naaaaat [erm can I call you Nat?] before anybody notices…you’ll have to remove me from this. arhaaha I ain’t got no ipod and media player is just fooked up out here.

  2. This sounds like fun. I should do this. I’m avoiding doing actual work, so yes, I will. I don’t know if I’ll finish tonight, but maybe this weekend. Thanks for some fun.

I love your life’s music mix. I don’t think mine will be that varied. My iTunes has a Johnny Cash fixation right now, and I don’t know why.

  3. OK, that’s hilarious. Especially Leaving Las Vegas, Black Magic Woman, your Birth of Child song (that’s exactly how it went down, heh?) and Eva Cassidy for opening credits.

Your Death Scene song reads a bit like a biblical judgement day scene but still rather cool.

There you go. See it wasn’t all bad. Now I’m going to go trot over to S’s place and check out her new glasses….cuz her future’s so bright.

  4. What? No country?

Just kidding. I can’t stand country.
